Parents/Guardians and Students as Funds of Knowledge

We all have different experiences and backgrounds.  Luis Moll coined the term "funds of knowledge" to "refer to the historically accumulated and culturally developed bodies of knowledge and skills essential for household or individual functioning and well-being" (Lopez).  What does this have to do with our classroom?  To put it simply, you as parents/guardians and your students all have different funds of knowledge.  In the classroom, I hope to draw on these to enrich our curriculum.  My fund of knowledge is different from that of my students.  If you or your students have something unique to contribute, I invite you to share your perspective.  You may visit our class or simply send me a note or email.  I cannot promise to accommodate every perspective, of course, but I will do my best to always include more than one.
