I do not wish to impose any kind of identity upon your students. Instead, I ask students to tell me how they want to be identified. To this end, we will have several activities that will be written and shared in this space. Students will complete a name project, in which they will identify their given and preferred names, along with their origin, meaning, and several other details. Additionally, students will write an autobiography within the framework of the past, present, and future. Through these assignments, students will be able to share their experiences and backgrounds with our learning community.
To begin the process of getting to know each other, I created an example for each project using my own background. Community building is never a one-way process. Both your students and I will share about ourselves as we explore literature and writing this year.
